Unblock PBS with Smart DNS

Unblock PBS

PBS or the Public Broadcasting Service is a non-profit public broadcaster that launched 44 years ago on October 5th 1970. When compared to some of the other popular TV stations is not old at all (the majority being around at least 30 years older than that). PBS is available just in the United States and the service is stationed in Virginia.

PBS has an astounding 354 member TV stations. The majority of these are owned by either educational institutions or by some sort of non-profit organisation affiliated with a school or university. As the most prominent provider of TV shows to public stations in the US, PBS is certainly mainstay of the US TV broadcasting behemoth. From the mid 2000’s several Roper Polls have placed PBS as America’s most trusted national institution, which is quite the title to hold.

PBS is not the only service in America to provide non-profit programming for public stations in fact a lot of stations receive their programming elsewhere with the likes of WGBH, American Public Television, WETA-TV and many more throwing their hat into the ring and as you may expect many viewers are rather confused with all of these acronyms and such.

PBS is the provider of such programmes as NOVA, Masterpiece, Nature, Frontline, Antiques Roadshow and the insanely popular educational children’s TV show Sesame Street. Sports used to be available through PBS though usually it was just local high school and college sports events though around 8 years ago these rights were taken by the MountainWest Sports Network.

PBS is not unlike the BBC in the way it operates though I would say it is not of as high prominence as The BBC is in the UK. BBC is the first channel you always see and it is pretty much omniscient in British programming though. The BBC does hold some rights to certain sports (probably the most popular being Rugby) it isn’t the big player it certainly once used to be. Once Sky and the like started to come in and make bids for sports rights that a publicly funded service could just never justify. From what I can tell many Americans aren’t really a fan of PBS due to the content of their programming which is sad but fits with what I would imagine the people of America want to watch (they love their faux-reality shows from what I can tell).

Want to unblock PBS?

Still PBS can be accessed only from the USA. Thankfully we have to unblock PBS and that is with something called Smart DNS. What Smart DNS does is make you appear you are accessing the website from the correct location so you gain full unbarred access to whatever the website has to offer. All of this without any sort of speed loss, so streaming isn’t impossible, not by a long shot.

Smart DNS is easy to set up too. All it requires is changing the DNS settings of your device of choice to those contained in your client area.
