Top 5 Netflix alternatives
Netflix is certainly known as the king of movie and TV show streaming and understandably it was one of the first and it certainly helped push online streaming to where we are today. Though it is certainly limited in its approach.
With the way that movies come and go, it can make the value of Netflix for an individual vary, whilst the subscription price continues to increase. It can become an increasingly difficult proposition for many to keep renewing their subscription due to the way the things they want to watch can come and go as they please.
There are other services out there that can help fill the gaps, I don’t know if any can truly replace Netflix but alongside it, work perfectly and fill many gaps users may have. What are the worthy Netflix alternatives?
Amazon Video
Whilst I will be focusing on the Prime aspect of Amazon Video, the flexibility is what makes Amazon Video stand out. With Amazon Video Prime you get a Netflix like selection of Movies and TV shows to choose from. There is a respectable collection there, though maybe slightly lagging behind the variety that Netflix has to offer. Where Amazon stands out though is the fact you can rent or buy movies and TV shows to watch when you choose. This may cost extra but it gives the all-important choice to the user themselves. On the flip side it can feel like it devalues the service when you see things you want to watch locked behind another paywall.
Hulu
I would say Hulu is only great if you don’t pay for it, sure you don’t get as much choice but what you miss out on I would say is not worth the money. Adverts are still present on videos that have them whether you are a plus member or not and I feel that is unacceptable. There is a nice choice at Hulu, it covers a few more niches than Netflix and Amazon do. Just don’t pay.
Vudu
Slightly different in its approach is Vudu, it focuses on newer movies. It is essentially the same as it used to be going into blockbuster for the latest movies as they came out to rent. You can own movies such as Star Wars: The Force Awakens already, you can also rent the likes of The Hateful Eight too. Vudu offers a unique service which is useful when you want to watch a new movie.
Crackle
A free Netflix alternative with a focus on older and more obscure titles. You can watch movies and TV shows on Crackle, you will find stuff you have never heard of before so it is well worth a look through. It is completely free so you have nothing to lose!
TalkTalkTV (Blinkbox)
TalkTalkTV, is similar to the likes of Vudu but has a distinctly more English point to it. Whilst it has the latest films from around the world, also available are English TV shows (with a mixture of American thrown in).
