How to set up SmartyDNS App v2 for Android TV

This tutorial will show you how to set up SmartyDNS App for Android TV. If you don’t have a SmartyDNS account, you can try our services for free for 3 days.

Here are the steps you should follow:

1. Part I. Install SmartyDNS app for Android TV.

   1. From your TV, go to Play Store and search for “smartydns” (1). Choose the “SmartyDNS” app (2) from the search results.
   2. Click “Install” (3).
   3. This will start the installation process. Once the installation is finished, click “Open” (4).

2. Part II. Connect to VPN

   If you want to connect to Smart DNS please skip Part II and go straight to “Part III. Connect to Smart DNS”.

   1. To sign in to VPN, make sure the “VPN” tab (5) is selected.Type your SmartyDNS VPN username (7) and password (8).

      Assure you use your VPN username and password from your package, NOT the website account credentials. To find your VPN username and password, sign in to your account on our website, go to “Packages”, click on your package, there you will see your “VPN Login Details” box. If you don’t have a SmartyDNS account, you can try our services for free for 3 days.

      If you forgot your password, click “Forgot your password?” (9). To remember the username and password, click “Remember me” (10).

      To sign in, click “Sign in” (11).

      To order our services click “Order now” button (12). If you want to sign in to Smart DNS, select the “Smart DNS” tab (6).

   2. Once you are signed in, choose the location (the VPN server) (13) you want to connect to.
   3. Choose the server (14).
   4. Click on “OFF” button (16) to connect to VPN.

      You are now connected, your IP is changed and your connection is encrypted.

      To disconnect just click on “On” button.

   5. Click on the menu icon (on the upper right corner) (17) and click on “Settings” to set up how the app works.
   6. An alert may appear asking if you accept that SmartyDNS will create a VPN connection. Click on “OK” (18).
   7. In the “Settings” you will be able to make the following configurations:

      “Start on boot” - starts the app automatically when the Android boots.

      “Sign in at app start” - sign in when software starts.

      “Connect VPN on sign in” – automatically connect to VPN with your last used city and protocol.

      “Hide app on connect” – hide the app after connecting to VPN.

      “Reconnect if connection dropped” – automatically connect if connection drops.

      “OpenVPN protocol” – select your OpenVPN protocol: TCP or UDP.

      “OpenVPN port” – select your OpenVPN port.

   8. To use the Smart DNS services you have to sign out from VPN. To do that, click on menu icon and click on “Sign out”.

3. Part III. Connect to Smart DNS

   1. Click on “Smart DNS” tab (19).Go to here and generate an authentication PIN code.

      If you don’t have a SmartyDNS account, you can try our services for free for 3 days.

      On the sign in screen enter the PIN code in the “PIN code” field (20). If you want the app to keep you signed in, click on “Remember me” (21).

      Click on “Sign in” button (22).

      To order our services click “Order now” button (23).

   2. To enable Smart DNS click on “OFF” button (25).Before enabling Smart DNS, you can choose:

      “Websites region” (26) – choose the region that will be used for multi-regional websites.

      “DNS Server” (27) – choose the server that is closest to you. To disable Smart DNS click on “ON” button. Click on the menu icon (on the upper right corner) (28) and click on “Settings” to set up how the app works.

   3. In the “Settings” you will be able to make the following configurations:

      “Update IP every” – if you ISP changes you IP often, you can set up how often our software will automatically update your IP.

      “Sign in at app start” - sign in when software starts.

      “Enable Smart DNS on Sign in” – automatically enable Smart DNS when you sign in.
