This tutorial will show you how to set up SmartyDNS App v3 for iOS (for v2, follow this tutorial).
If you don’t have a SmartyDNS account, you can try our services for free for 3 days.
Here are the steps you should follow:
Go to Apple App Store from your iOS device and search for SmartyDNS.
Tap the download icon (2).
Tap Open.
Type your SmartyDNS account email address (3) and password (4).
If you forgot your password, you can reset it here. If you don’t have a SmartyDNS account, you can try our services for free for 3 days.
Tap on Sign in.
If you have more than one active SmartyDNS subscriptions, you will be asked to choose the subscription you want to use by default. Select the subscription and tap Continue.
This will happen only once. You can change the default subscription anytime from the app Settings.
Make sure the VPN tab is selected. You can change the preferred location (the VPN server) you want to connect to.
Tap on OFF button to connect to VPN.
You are now connected, your IP is changed and your connection is encrypted. To disconnect just tap on On button.
On the screen with all the VPN servers you can sort the servers by speed.
When you connect to VPN first time, a notification will appear asking if you allow to add VPN configurations.
Tap Allow.
Tap on Smart DNS tab.
To enable Smart DNS tap on OFF button.
A notification might appear asking if you allow to add VPN configurations.
Tap Allow.
Tap on the menu icon (on the upper right corner) to see the Settings of the app or to sign out.
Tap on Settings to set up how the app works or on Sign out to sign out.
In the Settings you will be able to make the following configurations:
Default Service – Select the service you want to use by default. This option will be visible only if you have more than one active SmartyDNS subscriptions.
Reconnect if conn. dropped – automatically connect if connection drops.
Group servers by country when sorting by speed – when you sort VPN servers by speed, they will be grouped by country.
Websites region – choose the region that will be used for multi-regional websites.
DNS Server – choose the server that is closest to you.
Update IP automatically – set up the IP to be updated automatically. That’s useful when you ISP often changes your IP address. You should make sure that “Background App Refresh” is turned ON and that “Low Power Mode” is OFF in iOS Settings in order for this feature to work as supposed.
Sign in at app. start – sign in into your account when SmartyDNS app starts.
Connect VPN on sign in – automatically connect to VPN with your last used city and protocol.
Enable Smart DNS on Sign in – automatically enable Smart DNS when you sign in.
Hide app on VPN / Smart DNS connect – hide the app after connecting to VPN or enabling Smart DNS.
