How to set up IKEv2 VPN on macOS

This tutorial will show you how to set up IKEv2 VPN on macOS using the SmartyDNS VPN services. If you don’t have a SmartyDNS account, you can try our services for free for 3 days.

Here are the steps you should follow:

1. Click on the “apple” icon (1) which is in the upper left corner of your screen, then choose “System Preferences” (2).

2. Now click on the “Network” icon (3).

3. Once the network screen is open, click on the “+” icon (4) which is in the lower left corner of the screen.

4. A new windows will open, choose the following options:

   “Interface” (5) - choose VPN.

   “VPN Type” (6) - choose “IKEv2”.

   In “Service name” field (7) type “SmartyDNS (IKEv2)”.

   Then click “Create” (8).

5. On the next window do the following:

   In “Server Address” field (9) type the hostname of the SmartyDNS VPN server you want to connect to.

   To find the entire list of all available servers, sign in to your account on our website, go to “Setup” -> “VPN Servers“. If you don’t have a SmartyDNS account, you can try our services for free for 3 days.

   Type one more time the same hostname in the “Remote ID” field (10).

   Click on “Authentication settings” button (11).

6. Type your SmartyDNS VPN username and password in the “Username” (12) “Password” (13) fields.

   To find your VPN username and password, sign in to your account on our website, go to “Setup” -> “VPN Username & Password“. If you don’t have a SmartyDNS account, you can try our services for free for 3 days.

   Click “OK” (14).

7. Click “Apply” (15).

8. To connect to VPN, find the “SmartyDNS (IKEv2)” connection (16) from on the left side of the Network window and click “Connect” (17).

9. Also you can use connections icon (18) from the top bar of your mac. Click on it then click on “Connect SmartyDNS (IKEv2)” (19).
